Frequently Asked Questions
There are three models in the SUV and 4WD range. The Outlander is a mid-size family SUV with up to seven seats, a solid safety package, and the option of plug-in hybrid technology if you want to cut your running costs. The Pajero Sport is the dedicated 4WD of the group, with a turbo diesel engine, high ground clearance, and a proper multi-mode 4WD system for when the track gets rough. The ASX is a compact city SUV that does well on fuel, has a comfortable ride, and fits more inside than you might expect.
For families, the Outlander is the practical pick. It seats up to seven, has a spacious and flexible boot, and comes with a solid range of safety technology including Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Warning. That is a good spread of driver assistance features for everyday family driving. If you also need proper 4WD capability for camping trips or off-road use, the Pajero Sport comes with seven seats too and handles rougher terrain more capably.
The ASX works well in the city. It is compact enough to park without stress, the engine is fuel-efficient in stop-start traffic, and the cabin has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and modern safety features fitted as standard. You also get the slightly raised driving position that comes with an SUV, which many city drivers appreciate. It is a practical, no-fuss option for everyday urban use.
All models in the suv range come with Mitsubishi Motors Intuitive Technology (MiTEC) as standard, though the features available do vary by grade. Most include Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Step up in grade and you will find extras like adaptive cruise control, multi-view cameras, and Automatic High Beam. Several models in the range have also achieved strong ANCAP safety ratings, which is worth factoring in if safety is a priority for your next vehicle.
It depends on the model. The Pajero Sport runs a full-time 4WD system called Super Select 4WD-II, which gives you the option to switch between two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, and a low-range mode for technical off-road situations. It also has a rear differential lock for added grip in tricky conditions. The Outlander has an AWD option on some grades, which suits wet roads and light off-road tracks well. The ASX is front-wheel drive, which is perfectly adequate for on-road driving and everyday use.
The Pajero Sport has a good amount of storage once you fold the third-row seats flat, opening up a boot that handles camping gear, luggage, and large loads well. The Outlander is similar, with second and third rows that fold down to give you a lot of space when you need it. Both models have under-floor storage compartments and tie-down points for keeping gear in place on longer trips. The ASX has a smaller boot, but it is well-sized for everyday use. Shopping, sports bags, and the odd weekend bag fit in without issue.
The Pajero Sport is the serious off-roader in the range. It has 218mm of ground clearance, underbody protection, and the Super Select 4WD-II system with terrain-specific modes for gravel, mud and snow, sand, and rock. It handles river crossings, rocky tracks, and steep inclines without needing much coaxing. The Outlander in AWD grades is fine on dirt roads, wet paddocks, and moderate trails, but it is not a hard-core off-roader. The ASX is best kept to sealed roads and light gravel.
Fuel use varies quite a bit across the range depending on the model, grade, and how you drive. The ASX returns around 6.7L/100km on a combined cycle, which makes it a cost-effective option for daily driving. The Outlander PHEV can dramatically reduce your fuel use if you plug in regularly, with plenty of drivers covering their daily commute entirely on electricity. The Pajero Sport's turbo diesel is reasonable for its size and class, with combined figures typically sitting around 8-9L/100km depending on load and conditions. For exact figures on your preferred model and grade, check the specification sheet.
All current models in the SUV and 4WD range come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as standard across most grades. You can connect your smartphone to the touchscreen display for hands-free calls, navigation, music streaming, and messaging. On select grades, wireless connectivity is available so you do not need to plug in a cable each time.
All models come with a 10-year/200,000km vehicle warranty when serviced at an authorised Mitsubishi dealership, plus 10 years of capped-price servicing. The capped-price servicing means each scheduled service has a set cost upfront, so there are no surprises when you bring your car in. Knowing your warranty and service costs in advance makes it a lot easier to budget for ownership over the long term.
